Frequently Asked Questions
๐น 1. Is JPU accredited?
Yes. JPU is institutionally accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC), which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
This accreditation qualifies JPU students to sit for the national ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification examโthe gold standard in the U.S.
๐น 2. Is JRCERT required for licensure in New York?
No. New York Public Health Law explicitly allows licensure from programs that are JRCERT-accredited or another approved accrediting body.
JPU falls under the โother accrediting bodyโ category with ACCSC.

๐น 3. If JPU is accredited, why are licenses being revoked?
NY DOH changed its interpretation of existing policy in June 2025 without public notice or due process. They are now insisting that only JRCERT is acceptable, despite the law stating otherwise.
This has resulted in:
Retroactive license revocations
Refusal to issue new licenses
Removal of graduates from the public DOH registry
โ ๏ธ This is a likely violation of the 14th Amendment, which protects professional licenses as property that cannot be seized without due process.
๐น 4. Has JPU filed a lawsuit?
Yes. JPU filed:
A federal lawsuit on June 23
A New York State lawsuit on June 24
Both suits demand the Department of Health and the Department of Education cease their actions. A Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) was filed to force the state to reinstate licenses pending trial.
โณ Estimated timeline for TRO: 10โ20 days
๐น 5. Whatโs the likelihood students win this case?
Very high. Historically, courts have ruled due process violations in professional license revocations unconstitutional. JPUโs case includes:
200+ student affirmations
Legal citations
Evidence of selective enforcement
Other similar lawsuits have resulted in multi-million-dollar class action settlements.
๐ฐ Individual lawsuits may be worth $25Kโ$100K
๐ฐ Class actions could total $10โ30 million+
๐น 6. What about the MRI program I heard about?
JPU is offering free MRI certification training to affected graduates and students.
๐ July and September start dates
๐ 7.5 weeks + clinical
๐ต Valued at ~$3,600, offered for free
MRI techs do not require a NY state license (no radiation involved). Salaries range from $50โ78/hr.
๐น 7. What if my license was revoked?
Donโt panic. Save your letter. Do not send it back yet.
A federal TRO may reverse this. Also:

๐น 8. Whatโs happening with Northwell?
Northwell sent notice it is ending clinical partnerships with JPU as of August 18.
โก๏ธ This was not based on the DOH lawsuit. Northwell also ended partnerships with five other schools.
Students may continue at their clinical sites until then and will be reassigned if needed.
๐น 9. Can I apply for a license in another state?
Yes. Many students are pursuing Indiana, Connecticut, or New Jersey licenses.
JPU offers an equivalency packet for states like NJ that require JRCERT.
Contact your coordinator or the support team for help applying.
๐น 10. Will JPU eventually get JRCERT?
Yes. JPU began the JRCERT application process in May 2024.
They're currently waiting for JRCERT to open the application portal for full documentation submission.
The process normally takes 6โ12 months once the portal opens.
